A Look into Internet Marketing in 2017
What does the future of internet marketing have in store for us in 2017? Here are three major predictors you should have on your radar.
Increased Mobile GrowthThis one should be a bit of a no-brainer. Over the past three years, mobile search has shown exponential growth and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down in the future. Traffic distributions are shifting away from desktop and moving towards mobile devices – a trend several of our marketing clients have witnessed firsthand. With Mobilegeddon initiated back in April of 2015, Google has continually taken steps to prioritize mobile search– even announcing experiments to make its index mobile –first back in November of this year.
So what does this mean for you? Well, it means mobile optimization of all marketing efforts is no longer going to be simply “important” in 2017 – it’s going to be mandatory.
Voice Search & SemanticsWith digital personal assistants like Siri, Cortana, Google Now, Amazon Echo & Alexa, people are not only searching more on their mobile devices, but they’re doing so by voice. As a result, search engines must be able to comprehend search behaviors in different and more complex contexts than just a simple search phrase. It will also be interesting to see how Google monetizes voice searches as less users will be actually “searching” on devices.
So what does this mean for you? The days of traditional keyword research and subsequent landing page strategy are long gone. Rather than thinking in terms of strict keyword phrases and stuffing the crap out of a page, think in terms “topics” and “context.” How users search for something on a keyboard is inherently different than spoken word. Thus, keyword ideation, research & landing page strategy need to reflect the rise of semantics.
Rise of Video ContentWhen most people think of digital content marketing, they think of blogs, ebooks and landing pages – but one underdog is sure to make a comeback; video! Written content brings people to your site; video content seals the deal. In fact, shoppers who view videos are 1.81 times more likely to purchase than non-viewers. Let’s not ignore the fact that YouTube is the second most-used search engine in the world!
So what does this mean for you? If you want to take your content game to the next level and start locking in more leads or sales, you’ve got to start producing fresh, insightful video content.
