Are you slow to adopt Social Media Marketing, because you feel it is a passive form of marketing? I have heard many companies who do not want to turn over control of marketing to the community. Marketers naturally want to control 100% of the marketing message and giving the community equal voice about their products and services can be hard to do.
Search Marketing is an aggressive way to directly reach out to a target audience with a certain message. Those who feel Social Media Marketing is not as aggressive are not thinking about the big picture. You do not have to just set up some networks and then sit back and wait for your community to build. One aspect of Social Media Marketing is actually MORE aggressive than Search Marketing and that is what I call “Reverse the Search.”
Reverse the Search is the art of putting yourself in the shoes of the classic searcher, but instead of looking for products or services you will be searching for people. Look at Search Marketing in this way - you can have an aggressive PPC campaign and have a website that is ranking well for all of your primary keywords, but you still are waiting on the visitor to type in your keywords to find you.
Why wait? People are talking about your brand, your competitors, your industry, but you haven’t heard them yet. There are plenty of tools that allow you to find those people and reach out to them personally. Right now you could be searching for people who want your products or services but do not know about your company. Now you are aggressively growing your customer base and reaching out to those who will help introduce you to others.
In addition to that Social Media is great for developing effective customer loyalty strategies to retain your current client base. Customer loyalty research will allow you to search for how your clients feel about your company. It is important to make sure you retain your current customer base as you search for new clients.
Social Media can be a very aggressive and effective marketing strategy. Instead of having people search for you, Reverse the Search and search for them.
