In my previous post Big Wins for eCommerce in 2010 I highlighted the fact that eCommmerce had record breaking days and sales. Now what about the future? Forrester is predicting solid 8-10% growth pattern per year. By 2015 we could see eCommerce taking 15% of the entire retail market(excluding grocery)!
Check out the prediction graph by Forrester:
Growth has even started to take multiple paths. You have daily deal sites such as Groupon and Living Social doing massive transactions across the US each day. Then you have the traditional retailer taking part and selling their products online. Let's not forgot about digital downloads which have become a very competitive department with giants like Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon taking part in online transactions.
Mobile transactions are also on the rise. I expect to see a sharp up trend in users making purchases on their phone. Hopefully someone comes along and makes a better payment system so we aren't stuck typing 16 digit credit cards in our phones each time we want to shop.
